UNVEILING OF THE BUST STATUE OF
REV R.S.DE SARAM
On a proposal made by Quintus Tennakoon that the Centenary Group should erect a Memorial for the late Warden, Rev.Canon R.S.de Saram. the Executive Committee launched a fund to collect a sum of Rs. 200,000 for this purpose. The Memorial was to take the form of a bust statue in copper finish, mounted on a granite pedestal. One of Sri Lanka’s most renowned sculptors, Kalasoori. Kalamanya, Viswa Prasadini, Kalapathi, Deepa Deepani, Ariyawansa Weerakkody was commissioned to sculpture the bust statue and Messers Ally ‘Weerasinghe Ltd., were contacted to produce the granite pedestal. Due to the estimate being somewhat high and with the exact spot for installation undecided the committee initially decided to go ahead with the bust statue and shelve the pedestal for a later date.
The bust statue was unveiled by Warden. Dr. David Ponniah and President Lincoln Fernando after Vijaya Corea concluded his narration prior to the commencement of the S.T.C. O.B.A. Annual General Meeting on Friday, February 10. 2006 at 6.30 p.m. in the College Hall.
