From the Editorial Board
An eventful year for the Centenary Group, a year to remember, in addition to having times to gather and recall the past. Having been a part of the first 100 year celebration of S. Thomas’, therefore, the Centenary Group, we again celebrated another hundred. Hundred Years at Mount. Not many can claim such a double in their lives.
The Group is grateful for the opportunities it has had to support STC. Renovating and Maintaining the Dining Hall, making it again, a pleasant place for a meal, action to control the Dengue Mosquito at the height of it’s attacks and more recently supporting the renovation and accepting the task of maintaining and improving the 100 year old main class room block, where each one of us, not only the Centurions, but all spent more than a few years of our lives.
The past year also saw sadness when we said farewell to some of our friends. Sudden death of the President Nihal Samarasinghe, no doubt, came as a shock. In addition to being our President he was also a friend to many, a Queens Scout and a leader of persons, in song. His comments after the traditional OBA lunch which held all in fits of laughter was sorely missed this year. The Group will also miss the friendship of Frederick Wickremanayake, Sunil de Mel, M.D. Percy Gunasena, Ainsley Wirakoon, Ranjit Jayanetti, Errol Jacotine, Shirley Piyasena, Viren de Mel and Kithsiri Jayasinghe. Friends of a lifetime, who contributed to STC and the society at large. We salute their memory and our sympathies go out to the families. May they all Rest in Peace.
We thank all Centenary Group members who supported the College in its quest for improvement and the Executive Committee appeals to all for support to improve and maintain the facilities at S. Thomas’.
